Hans Graf von der Goltz, who was instrumental in bringing BMW’s $10 million gift to Georgetown in 1996 and who served on the Center’s Advisory Council for many years, passed away on May 28, 2018 at the age of 91. Graf von der Goltz grew up in Berlin and studied law at the University of Munich before embarking on a distinguished career in business. He served in senior management at the Quandt Holding group from 1971-1982 and then as Director until 1997. Graf von der Goltz was appointed as CEO of VARTA AG in 1979, Chairman of the Supervisory Board at BMW in 1993, and joined the boards of Dresdner Bank and Gerling Insurance Group. He retired from BMW in 1997, and turned his attention to writing, publishing numerous novels as well as personal recollections. We will miss his gentle manner and wise counsel.
