Why I chose MAGES: The MAGES program provides an unrivaled opportunity to actively pursue both my lifelong passion for European affairs and professional ambitions. MAGES faculty have continuously supported my Georgetown education. My previous work on global populism inspired an ambition to formally examine democratic backsliding and informally examine the dynamics of populism present both in Germany’s AfD through my language study and within U.S. institutions during time on Capitol Hill. As a MAGES student, I hope to pursue an International Business Diplomacy graduate certificate. Furthermore, the BMW internship in Munich offered through MAGES is an opportunity I’m eager to pursue. Georgetown’s emphasizes on serious and sustained discourse to promote intellectual, ethical, and spiritual understanding amongst various faiths, cultures, and beliefs, directly aligns with my passions for cultural emersion and personal growth. A clear commitment to justice and common good stemming from Jesuit values, sets it apart in a mission to not simply convey knowledge but create and foster new understandings and outlooks. Georgetown’s commitment to lifelong learning, responsible and active participation in civic life, generosity, and service to others is a critical component in hoping to pursue a diplomatic career.
