MAGES/M.P.P.

CGES, the McCourt School of Public Policy (MSPP) and the Hertie School in Berlin offer a three-year dual degree program leading to a Master of Arts in German and European Studies (MAGES) and Master of Public Policy (MPP). Students will have the option of spending their entire second year, the spring term of their second year, or no time at the Hertie School in Berlin.

Curriculum

The dual degree program requires three years of full time study. Successful completion requires achieving 69 credits, comprised of 36 MPP credit hours and 33 MAGES credit hours. In order to achieve the MAGES/MPP degree, students must:

  • Achieve a 3.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale
  • Write a thesis in the MPP Thesis Workshop, subject to additional conditions
  • Pass the MAGES oral exam in the fall of their third year
  • Satisfy the MAGES language requirements
    • Oral proficiency in a European language other than English
    • Reading proficiency in a second European language other than English
  • The dual degree combines MPP and the MAGES degree requirements.

Admissions & Aid

Applicants to the dual degree program must apply independently to both programs (MAGES and MPP) and will be admitted to the individual programs based on the recommendations of each program’s admissions committee. Applicants admitted to both individual programs will then be considered by a separate MAGES/MPP admission committee for admission to the dual degree program. Applicants must complete all application procedures and fulfill all entrance requirements for the MAGES program. Applicants must also submit a separate application packet for the MPP program. Students will pay tuition for all three years to Georgetown University (regardless of whether the second year of study is spent at Hertie or at Georgetown).
