Aidan McCullough
Class of 2027
Hometown: Long Island, NY
Education: College of William & Mary; BA in Global Studies (European studies concentration), and a BA in French and Francophone Studies (secondary major)
Academic & Research Interests: European studies; European languages (French and Russian primarily); economic security issues; intersections between private enterprise and public policy - Additional interests from my undergraduate years: international education, European history
Work Experience: Worked as a program assistant for a French language immersion program at William & Mary, in which I taught French and organized extracurricular events for the department; Interned with a study abroad organization called Institute for Field Education (IFE) in Strasbourg, France. While there, I worked as a teaching assistant for English language instruction and special education at a French public middle/high school; Was a student researcher for a short time with a government/political science lab at W&M, in which I looked into perspectives on European security issues, while also doing some Russian translation work
Why I chose MAGES: I chose MAGES for two reasons: 1. the program provides a regional (European) focus on issues in the field of international relations, and 2. opportunities for professional advancement and networking. Regarding the first reason, I knew that I wanted to continue studying Europe and potentially apply this regional base of knowledge in a future career. Outside of these two reasons, I also appreciate the flexibility that the MAGES curriculum provides in order to explore different, evolving interests. If I make a pivot in my interests, the program can account for this to a reasonable extent.
