Andreea Propocan
Class of 2025
Hometown: Chișinău, Republic of Moldova
Education: Oberlin College, B.A. in Politics and Economics, Concentration in International Affairs
Academic & Research Interests: European Integration, Post-Soviet Politics, Economic Development in Eastern Europe, Russian Nationalism
Work Experience: I was exposed to diplomacy as an intern in the Political-Economic Section of the U.S. Embassy in Moldova. On the qualitative side, I have experience as a research assistant of Russian nationalism and Putinism and as an intern at the Research Insititute of Industrial Economics in Stockholm, where I evaluated the variation in European sentiments of "belonging" using statistical analysis. I sharpened my quantitative analysis skills as a venture capital analyst at the Riverside Company in NYC and as an Oberlin's Finance Club Investment Officer.
Why I chose MAGES: MAGES is at the intersection between scholarship an diplomacy, a position I want to find myself in as a future foreign policymaker. The program's goals address both my Moldovan identity and my with for a continued, sustainable transatlantic relationship between the U.S. and Europe, as I aim to work on the economic development and the E.U. accession process of Moldova and Ukraine. The program's core structure allows us to understand Europe from an economic, historical, and cultural lenses while being flexible enough to let us complement it with Certificates from other Georgetown schools.
